IGF 2013 Student Competition Entrant

SerpenteS

School: ENJMIN (Angoulme, France)

Creator: Team SerpenteS

Game Website: http://www.serpentesthegame.com

Description:
SerpenteS is a game where the player controls a 2-headed snake. Each head is controlled independently. The player has to synchronize both of his hands to make the snake move and overcome the obstacles scattered across the levels. Serpentes is a game based on manipulation and player dexterity.

Each head is controlled by a stick and a gamepad trigger (Xbox 360-like). The stick is used to move the head (using movement amplitude, as the stick is analogic) while the trigger allows to bite/boost the snake (in this case, the input is binary).
The snake can crawl, get over steps, bite pivots and swing, pull objects or even propel himself thanks to his elasticity. But this unusual gameplay needs many manipulations, and while bypassing an obstacle is very, the opposite could become frustrating. A great effort has been made to improve the usability aspect of the game in order to avoid frustration, using several playtest sessions as well as using Sound Design and Visuals to help the player.

It was first design as a single player game but it is possible to play with another player. We highly encourage to play the game with a second controller or with 2 players on the same controller. It's a lot funnier to play with a friend !
