Description

Nightmares put us in worlds filled with our worst fears with little to fight back with. But what if you had some control over your dream… what if you were lucid dreaming during a nightmare? Would you be able to put your fears aside and fight back?

Lucid puts you in control of Ralphy during one of the worst nightmares of his life. You must help Ralphy wake up by fighting through rooms filled with creatures from his subconscious. By discovering new upgrades and weapons, Ralphy can make himself stronger and better suited for the dreams ahead.

Lucid is a 15 week project being developed in one of Michigan State University's Game Design and Development classes. The goal of the project is to give students who are accustomed to 5 week development cycles in previous classes a chance at creating a more expansive and polished game. Students are required to create game design documents, give pitches, alpha/beta presentations, submit to IGF 2013, and to present a post-mortem.

Lucid really pulls away from the competition in its combat system. Lucid will keep the addictive mechanics of the roguelike genre, but will innovate by implementing a more gratifying combat system like the one seen in Bastion. With these two mechanics working in complete harmony, Lucid will offer a whole new experience to the roguelike audience.
