MicroVentures is a casual roguelike for Android (and soon for iOS). Each session consists of a short procedurally-generated adventure, providing a bite-sized heroic experience on your mobile device. Bridging these short adventures is a procedural story generator that not only gives hilarious insight to your world and the many characters involved in the game, but also shifts the story depending on each adventure's outcome.

You play as either a Knight, Wizard, or Rogue, each with different play-styles and personalities. Venture in six different locations, using over fifty different items and fighting over forty different types of enemies. Though MicroVentures started as a student project, we hope to continue expanding the game through frequent updates with new (and free) content and development tools for fans to create their own specialized adventures.

Have fun!

The The Movers & Shakers is a two-player tablet serious game created as a research tool to explore how players communicate based on conflicting perspectives within the game. The aim of The Movers & Shakers is to create a meaningful conflict between its players and to facilitate a controversy beyond the screens.

When players start the game, they are informed that the earth has slowed down and they are in charge of managing lava sprites in the center of the earth to get the planet back on track. They are each tasked with individual goals, met by arranging the lava sprites using a boardgame-like interface, but in real-time like a strategy game. The players need to cooperate to prevent catastrophe but are given no in-game elements to do so. Only by communicating with each other across the game will the world be saved.

The gameplay experience is unique to each pair of players, as the intention of the game is to explore issues of modern office environments and leadership dynamics through asymmetrical gameplay and subversive elements.

Movmote is a single-player game where the player controls a moving object by slowing it down and changing its movement paths. The simple control mechanics allow new players to pick up the game easily. Instructions were deliberately excluded from the game to encourage exploration from the players.

In addition, the visual and sound feedback are carefully designed to provide different experiences for players during different play-throughs.

Play the game, Imagine every possibility and let your mind Explore the world of Movmote.

Research Statement
In addition to being a game, Movmote is a tool designed to help us understand how players interpret games. Drawing on theories of simulation and semiotics, Movmote is based on a real-world system but does not make explicit reference to that system. The goal of this project is to study how players interpret the game, and the extent to which the rules and (near lack of) fiction shape those interpretations.

"Ode To Pixel Days" is a puzzle platfromer with pixel-art graphics. It's about a teenage boy, Hans, having a crush on a cheerleader. Hans gets rejected by the cheerleader, because he is ugly, and not charismatic. Hans tries to change this by building a machine that will make everyone look the same. When everyone looks the same, he can have the girl of his dreams! But of course, in reality, things don't work that way; and Hans is about to get into some bitter experiences.

The game is played in a castle, that represents the world created by Hans' mind. The game's artistic goal is to put the players in Hans' mind, to make them play through his emotional experiences, hopes and dreams. The core experience of the game is the feelings a boy goes through when he gets into puberty; loneliness, sadness, low self-esteem, the desire to change things about you.

There's an abstract third character, the narrator, who accompanies Hans by telling the story and even directly speaking to Hans in some parts of the game.

This game is made completely by one person, and that is me.

Perspective is an experimental first person puzzle game.

In Perspective, the player has two modes of control: a first person camera moving in 3D space, and an avatar that is constrained to the 2D world. In order to get the 2D avatar to the goal at the end of the level, the 3D player needs to move around in 3D space to create paths for the 2D avatar.

Unlike other puzzle games that make use of 2D/3D such as Crush or Fez, Perspective allows the player to move around in 3D space freely. This opens up a lot of new ways to use perception as a puzzle mechanic to create new paths in 2D.

Phantasmaburbia is an adventure-roleplaying title that mixes old and new RPG ideas. In the year 201X, ghosts and evil spirits invade an American suburban community. A group of teens, armed with weapons found in their homes and assisted by friendly spirits, set out to prevent the rise of a great evil in their small town. It's got a crazy and original story with fast gameplay, clever puzzles, and fun secrets!

This is a game that's made to be a bit different. There's no currency or "fetch quests" and even NPCs are exceedingly sparse. You gain levels in a way such that you're never forced to grind, and the battles themselves are made to go quickly and succinctly (this game doesn't waste your time). The decisions you make over the course of the game have little effect on the story, but have ramifications for your characters' abilities and what dungeons you play. The puzzles are based on spatial manipulation, and require logical thinking beyond memorization or basic lock-and-key archetypes. While I still clung onto some of the superficial bits of old RPGs that I loved like combat menus and inventories, I also worked at every turn to personalize those things or optimize them to make something that's both classic and new.

In the haunted world of Phantomation you play as a phantom trying to use your powers to save someone in an abandoned mansion. Evil spirits inside the mansion are waiting to scare the unwelcome visitor to death. It also introduces a new animation feature called real time, which allows the user to record animations demonstratively without having to manually set keyframes.
