Shadowplay
School: Victoria University (Wellington, Te Aro New Zealand)
Description: Shadowplay is a puzzle platformer created by 2 University students. Developed using the Unity3D platform, Shadowplay seeks to create a unique and rewarding experience for the player through new forms of gameplay.
In Shadowplay, the player plays a puppet, controlling him toward a goal that is
not fully revealed until the end of the game. The gameplay of Shadowplay revolves around the player’s ability to switch between two modes: “light mode” and “shadow mode”.
In light mode, the player controls the puppet directly, walking and jumping over obstacles that lie directly in front of him and passing in front of or behind objects
that are on different planes from the player.
In shadow mode, the player’s view shifts to focus on the shadows that his puppet and the environment are casting. The unique gameplay of Shadowplay flows from the fact that while in this mode, the casted shadows become solid and real.
