Abandon is a game about running away. Step into the shoes of a girl lost a surreal dreamscape, and escape from the encroaching darkness before it consumes everything, including you. Objects strewn about this dream world are brought to life by your light, but they seek only to bring darkness. No place is safe. Can you abandon these objects; can you abandon the night? Or are you the one who has been abandoned and left… alone?

Abandon showcases a large array of animated objects. The development team utilized experimental, automated rigging software to enable rapid creation of animated models. The direction for the project was motivated by the desire to create a game featuring a large number of unique animated models, not normally feasible with a small team size and short development time frame. The team strived to create a world for the player where just about anything can come to life.

Aether is a space racing game for two to four players on the Xbox 360 and PC. Each player controls a ship that flies in the 3D world. Unlike most racing games, the player in the lead creates the track for the other players to follow. The track is a tunnel that must be navigated by the other competitors.

There are two competitive modes: last man standing and king of the hill. In last man standing, players are eliminated when they fall out of the end of the tunnel. The goal is to take the lead and create a complex tunnel, causing competitors to be eliminated. To limit the game time between skilled players, the tunnel disintegrates from the end. In king of the hill, a player accumulates time by being in the lead. The winner is the player who reaches the match time first. When players fall out of the end of the tunnel, they are teleported inside of the tunnel and receive a penalty.

Aether has a unique artistic style where each player has an aesthetic. When a player takes the lead, th...

Dartmouth College

Alternex is a game about the research and deployment of alternative energy technologies. Players fund energy research and manage the construction of power plants in fictional nations with the goal of minimizing waste production over a period of time.

Alternex teaches lessons through gameplay rather than through incidental narrative. Players will learn about the need to fund multiple technologies in parallel, the advantages of gradual deployment of these technologies, and the difficulties of an incompatible power grid. These are complex lessons, and games are the perfect medium for teaching them.

As a young student, the game's author noticed that the students who most enjoyed games would shun the educational ones because such games were too pedantic, patronizing, or cutesy. Alternex was designed to appeal to this ironically forgotten audience rather than counterproductively compromise itself in the name of accessibility.
